PERTEX® QUANTUM

Windproof, soft to the touch and 100% recycled. PERTEX® QUANTUM is constructed in a tightly woven structure to provide windproof protection and trap still air inside the smock.The fabric is lightweight, packable and soft to the touch. Finished with a non-fluorocarbon water repellent which allows the fabric to shed light rain and snow, allowing the smock to provide weather protection in adverse conditions.The fabric is constructed using highly abrasion resistant nylon ripstop, incorporating reinforcement yarns to provide durable resistance to tearing, helping the fabric to withstand harsh mountain environments.

  • What has changed with the updated version of the Extreme?

    The Extreme range has been updated to feature a 100% recycled outer fabric. The Montane logo has been updated to a solid colour. There have been slight adjustments to the seams for a better fit and increased durability. The elbow area has been reduced in size for a neater fit. On the Extreme Smock the removable crotch strap is no longer a feature.

    Best cold weather smock I own

    I wanted a Buffalo Systems Special 6 shirt, but they were too expensive to buy, unless I was absolutely sure I wanted one.

    So I bought an Aplkit Jura smock, and loved it, but the pile is not very thick in it, and in cold weather you need to layer underneath it (which is not what a cold weather smock is about).

    Then I bought a used Special 6 shirt, which is great, but so many details on the Jura were better (better zips and fasteners, zip-in hood, chest pocket that has structure, hood adjustment).

    I'd heard good things about the Montane Extreme Smock, but it was no longer being made, until Montane decided to do a run of an updated version of it.

    So I bought one, and it's like the near-perfect mash-up of the Special 6 and the Jura. The all-day warmth and breathability of the Special 6, and the better zips, fasteners, hood and adjustments of the Jura.

    I've only worn it a few times, but I love it, and I'll be putting my Special 6 on eBay (I might keep the Jura for those days when it's not quite Baltic conditions).

    Great jacket for the hills

    Taken the thing skiing a few times now and it does not disappoint. Plenty warm for those cold days with a layer on underneath and the vents on the front and side are unreal when it gets a bit too hot

    Awesome piece of kit

    Sized up as I put some weight on. Material and pile is much softer than the one I bought some years ago. Feels very similar to the buffalo line. The only thing I missed coming from a buffalo special 6 was a waist strap to cinch the jacket tight on your midriff which I added to my old montane extreme smock and will do to my new one. Good for the price too comparing to other similar jackets 👍
