In 2024 Montane became a bluesign System Partner. bluesign offer an internationally recognised, comprehensive solution for brands, manufacturers and chemical suppliers to improve sustainability in the textile supply chain. This in turn helps the textile industry reduce its impact on people and the planet.

Through a structured system for sustainable chemical management and responsible manufacturing, bluesign empowers brands, manufacturers, and chemical suppliers to create safer, more responsible products. By eliminating harmful substances at the start of production, bluesign help to ensure textile products & accessories meet the highest safety and environmental standards.

bluesign System Partnership supports Montane by:

Implementing a robust bluesign Restricted Substances List (RSL) and material testing programme, that helps to ensure the responsible use of resources, and safe working conditions throughout our supply chain.

Providing access to bluesigns material database to assist Montane in sourcing bluepass certified materials

Improving visibility and management of the chemicals used by tier 1 and 2 suppliers.

Montane works with many suppliers who are already bluesign System Partners. We encourage those suppliers to maintain certification, whilst also encouraging others to pursue becoming a bluesign System Partner where possible, to support supply chain safety and transparency.
Individual fabrics or trims can be bluepass certified, or, finished products can be bluepass products. The latter accolade can only be applied to products made by bluesign System Partners and where 90%+ of materials and 30%+ of trims are bluepass certified.

bluepass certified chemicals & materials

bluepass certification provides assurance that individual components, like fabric or trims, are produced through processes following strict safety, environmental, and ecological standards, and as such meet the bluesign Criteria.

bluepass certified materials and chemical products:

• Are made with safer chemicals
• Have reduced environmental impact
• Ensure worker protection
• Support responsible resource use
• Have a high level of consumer safety

These verified components form the foundation for bluepass products

The bluepass product label is the highest level of assurance labelling offered by bluesign. It applies to finished consumer goods such as apparel, footwear, or accessories made with qualifying percentages of bluepass certified components.

bluepass products

• Contain at least 90% bluepass certified fabrics and 30% bluepass certified trims or accessories
• Source remaining components from suppliers with an available test report or Oeko-Tex certificate, ruling out the presence of harmful chemical content.
• Are made in factories that meet the Brand’s Social Responsibility Program

Know What You're Buying

Many styles on our website include a Know What You’re Buying table, where bluepass certified fabric and trims are identified. We are working to build on this for AW26 by highlighting which Montane styles qualify as bluepass products. This accolade can only be applied to products where 90%+ of materials and 30%+ of trims are bluepass certified.

This long-term commitment with bluesign sees us working together with our supply chain partners as we aim to improve transparency and reduce our impact on people and the planet.
