A challenging first night and punishing second day saw some big names unable to continue, as the race altitude increased through some of the highest passes in the course.

Day 1 > Day 3 > Day 4 >

Most notably, 2-time winner of the Tor des Géants Franco Collé was forced to retire due to problems with his vision. Montane Athlete Galen Reynolds to push into 2nd place - where he finished last years race - and has had race leader Oliviero Bostatelli under pressure ever since.

Throughout the day a number of other high-profile athletes dropped out of the race. Amongst them were Montane Athletes Simon Gfeller and Jenn Gaskell - a veteran of 3 TOR's.

The races' oldest competitor also withdrew from the race; 73 year old Joaquim Sampaio chose to remove himself from the race at Cogne. By this point more than 140 people have retired from the race - about 15% of the total race compliment
